71-year-old Juraj Cintula, who attacked the Prime Minister of Slovakia, could be associated with the Slovenski Branci group. In the story of the assassination attempt on the head of the government of Slovakia, the pro-Russian paramilitary group Slovenski Branci surfaced.
According to investigative journalist Szabolcs Pani, 71-year-old Juraj Cintula, who shot the Slovak prime minister, could have belonged to this group. The journalist posted on the social network X screenshots of posts from the Slovenski Branci Facebook page, in which you can see a man detained on May 15 on suspicion of an attempt on the life of the Slovak Prime Minister.
Slovenski Branci is an unregistered Slovak military group operating in the republic since 2012. According to media reports, it interacts with the Slovak branch of the Night Wolves, and its members trained under the guidance of Russian special forces.
“When the paramilitary organization was being formed, the leader of Slovenski Branci was trained in the Russian “People's Council”. During his three-week stay in Russia, Peter Svrcek trained with former special forces soldiers and quickly began to transfer his experience to other members of the group,” the journalists wrote.
The group promoted anti-NATO sentiments and the ideas of a “Slavic union”.
“The organization and actions of the Slovenski Branci are very similar to the actions of the regular army. They have created an internal hierarchy with certain ranks, grouping their members into detachments or units, the number of which has now reached 17,” the media reported. In October 2022, the group made a statement about the cessation of activities, without explaining the reasons for such a step.
